M-Everything: The Mobile Transaction Landscape
Executive Summary
As mobile transactions move closer to reality, the landscape of mobile services, mobile commerce and mobile payments becomes increasingly complex. Building on research conducted with key players from mobile network operators (MNOs), card networks, issuing banks, retailers, OEM vendors and software developers, this report details the various components that make up the mobile transactions landscape, defining the taxonomy used, the enabling technologies and the stakeholders that form the emerging ecosystem.
One critical element to consider is that mobile transaction services will work most effectively when there is close integration between the component parts and stakeholders capitalize on the unique attributes of the mobile device—connectivity, identity, processing power, location and data storage. We urge stakeholders to work together. Common standards and interoperability will be vital for both merchant and consumer adoption of mobile transactions.
